Get certified!

To be able to participate in our research program, MAR requires you to be at least ADVANCED (Open Water/Scuba Diver) certified. If you are not certified yet or you need/want to complete your certification and improve your diving skills, we offer various NAUI dive training options.

The National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI Worldwide) is an association of scuba instructors. It is a recreational diver certification and membership organization established to provide international diver standards and education programs.  NAUI certifications are internationally recognized.

OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVER COURSE:

During your NAUI Scuba Diver class, you will learn about modern dive equipment, diving sciences, responsible diving practices, problem solving and the environment. Diving skills will be taught and practiced first in the comfort and convenience of a confined water environment and finally during your open water training dives with your NAUI Instructor.

ADVANCED SCUBA DIVER COURSE:

During training, students complete a minimum of six open-water dives, including three separate dives for navigation,  low visibility diving, and deep diving (130 feet/40 meters of maximum depth), plus three additional dives based on your individual preferences and available options.

Possible activities include:

  • Search and recovery
  • Boat diving
  • Exploration and underwater mapping
  • Wreck diving (non-penetration)
  • Observation and data collecting
  • Diving in currents
  • Diving for photos and videos

NAUI FIRST AID COURSE:

Despite all the best training and planning, sometimes the unexpected happens. Whether due to environmental conditions, medical emergencies or accident, divers and professionals may be called upon to intervene. In order to be prepared, NAUI provides training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Blood borne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration and First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries. All training complies with the latest International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) standards.
