Take your diving to the next level with MAR’s NAUI Divemaster (DM) – A unique opportunity to become a professional diver while contributing to marine research and conservation.
Our Divemaster program runs twice a year: Once in summer (March to May) and once during the winter season (June to August).
To qualify as a Divemaster, you must have a minimum of 60 logged dives, as well as completing all e-Learning and skills.
The full program runs over three months. A minimum commitment of two months is required to complete all training dives, while the third month is ideal for those who wish to dedicate additional time to participating in our research program.
The NAUI Divemaster course is designed to develop leaders — divers who mentor, motivate, and inspire others. Although Divemaster Candidates (DMCs) won’t be fully involved in our core research activities, you will join selected sessions—either diving or snorkelling—and receive basic training in underwater data collection techniques. For this, some scientific background would be beneficial.
Being a Divemaster is much more than leading dives. You take on a vital safety role — not just for your clients, but also on behalf of your dive centre and aspiring scientists under MAR. As a Divemaster intern, you’ll be actively involved in a range of daily responsibilities such as maintaining boats and dive gear, filling tanks, rinsing and organising equipment, and ensuring the dive centre remains clean and efficient.
To be eligible for the program, and in line with NAUI standards, you must be at least 18 years old and in good physical condition to manage both the training and the daily responsibilities of a Divemaster. Before signing up, students should hold a Rescue diving qualification with a valid first aid certificate (valid for 24 months by the time of DM completion). A minimum of 40 logged dives is also required, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to log additional dives during your training to qualify as a Divemaster.
Both Research and Divemaster interns have the additional option to stay at Doxa instead of the Lab during their time here. Please see below the 2026 Internship fees for pricing.
